The Independent News & Media Pte Ltd is a privately held entity endowed with civil personality operating in accordance with commercial rules, registered in the Republic of Singapore (UEN: 200801353D) under a class license from Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA). The publication was founded in August 2013 by Kumaran Pillai, PN Balji, Leon Perera, Alfred Dodwell and Edmund Wee. Both Leon Perera and Alfred Dodwell have exited the company. The company is self-funded through advertising and shareholder funds.
The Independent Singapore brings independent perspective on news and current affairs in Singapore. It is a platform owned and operated by journalists. Started on the 9th of August 2013, the news website brings in-depth perspective and analysis on current affairs, economics and politics in Singapore.
